Dr. Andrew Stratford serves as the Chief of Surgical Services at Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH). Originally from Grafton, he considered working at other hospitals after he graduated from Queens University, but in the end was drawn back to NHH and his home community. He has been a surgeon on the NHH team since 2005.
“Our Surgical Services program is very reliant on the NHH Foundation and funds raised from community donations,” shares Dr. Stratford. “With ongoing support, we’re able to upgrade our equipment, bring in new services, and access technology typically found at larger hospitals so we can provide our community with high-quality care and minimize our patients having to travel.”
Northumberland is Dr. Stratford’s community – this is not only the community in which he has chosen to practice, but where he lives and has raised four children alongside his wife, Heather. With multiple generations of doctors in his family ahead of him, he grew up with a clear understanding of the importance of quality healthcare and of helping others and has taken on a leadership role to support the Exceptional Community, Exceptional Care campaign to help ensure the community understands the impact their support makes by hearing it from someone who sees this difference on the frontlines every day.
“NHH is an anchor in our community,” shares Dr. Stratford. “We’re lucky to have a population in Northumberland that has been so committed to healthcare – I think the goodwill and support we’ve seen rivals many larger communities and because of this support, we have been able to grow a facility that is equal to much larger city-centred hospitals. Our team gets to help improve people’s lives thanks to our generous community, and we need this continued support to ensure we can keep doing this as our population grows.”
