The Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation is a dedicated team of enthusiastic volunteers and staff who are passionately committed to improving health care and the quality of life in our communities.

We do this by:

  • Building and managing a comprehensive fund development program designed to secure more gift revenue, more cost effectively each fiscal year
  • Identifying, attracting and retaining more donors through effective cultivation and stewardship
  • Building NHH healthcare service capabilities by engaging in strategic and imaginative grant-making
  • Spreading our messages in thoughtful and inspiring ways to both external and internal stakeholders by all means possible, through collaborative communications and marketing efforts
  • Attracting committed volunteers, practicing effective governance and demonstrating accountability in all of our activities


Message from Jeff Gilmer, NHH Foundation Board Chair

The Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation (NHHF) is an integral part of both the hospital and the community.  The Foundation’s role raising funds in support of necessary hospital equipment is a key component of the excellent care provided to our community.

Many people are not aware that the Provincial Government does not typically fund equipment for any hospital. The billions of dollars that are spent annually cover the cost of operations while capital expenditures, like medical equipment and technology, require funds raised within the individual community.

The support Northumberland residents have provided through NHHF has allowed the hospital to purchase much needed equipment. Over the past 18 years, more than $57 million has been raised. Some of the equipment and projects funded through the Foundation have included a complete state-of-the-art Operating Suite renovation, an MRI unit and CT scanner, digital mammography units, anaesthetic machines, hospital beds and mattresses, surgical scopes, cardiac monitors – the list goes on and on. The community support has helped ensure we have access to the highest level of patient care close to home.

The Foundation Board of Directors approved a new strategic plan in 2018 that will guide us for the next four years.  I look forward to using this plan in conjunction with my fellow Directors and the excellent Foundation staff to continue our success in being able to provide the tools necessary for comprehensive quality care at Northumberland Hills Hospital.

I am pleased to be the Chair of NHHF and to be working closely with the Vice-Chair, Wendy Ito, and the Board. I would like to congratulate our past-Chair, Tyler Hathway on completing his two extremely successful years as Foundation Board Chair. I have appreciated and continue to appreciate working with Tyler and commend him on his leadership and accomplishments. We are planning to continue this success over the coming years.

I have had the pleasure of attending a number of events at NHH, and at each and every one, the passion and commitment of the doctors and staff have been evident.  With the changing technologies and demands on our health care system, we will need to continue to provide up-to-date equipment for these professionals as they care for the growing complexity of health care needs of our community.

As Winston Churchill has been quoted as saying, “we make a living by what we get but we make a life by what we give.”

We appreciate the great support so many people have provided to NHHF in the past and look forward to expanding that partnership in the years ahead.
