Wilf & Immy’s Story
The following story was shared by Wilf Loewrigkeit. With his permission, we are sharing it.
---
Some 10 years ago we relocated to Cobourg.
We were attracted to Cobourg by the beaches, boardwalk, marina etc. Little did we know that Cobourg offered another 'pearl.”
Our first visit to NHH was an eye opener for us. We were pleasantly surprised being treated as people rather than a number. Once we had settled into the community, we felt it would be appropriate to show our appreciation and decided to support the NHH Foundation and signed up for the monthly giving program, followed by other donation opportunities.
With advancing age, we have had our share of (non-emergency) hospital visits. I always tried helping people and had the opportunity in Trent Lakes serving as a long-term Volunteer Fire Fighter and OPP community policing volunteer. So, it was natural that I decided to join the NHH Auxiliary and as of late 2023, I am helping out in Day Surgery.
On May 15, my spouse Immy (Ilse) was in medical distress and a most professional and calm paramedic team brought her to the NHH ER.
The entire ER team worked for hours performing several diagnostic steps. We really appreciated Dr. Chen clearly and confidently sharing the diagnosis and referral. Soon afterward Dr. Stratford attended and urged immediate surgery. As it was late into the evening, we were quite unprepared for his plan to mobilize the surgery team. Dr Stratford and the on-call surgery team completed complicated procedures by 10 pm that night.
Post-surgery there was a bed available and the caring night nurse, Marissa, helped in rapid recovery. The dedicated and timely action of all NHH teams prevented certain and serious health complications and assured rapid recovery for Immy.
We cannot be grateful enough to NHH and the people and will be happy to continue to provide support at the NHH wherever we can. As a community, we are most fortunate to have NHH.
