Family helps others after loss of their son
- January 03, 2017
The loss of their son Lawrence who was born still in August was a tremendously painful time for Russ and Holly Hunt. With professional counselling provided by social worker, Maureen Pollard, the Hunts have been slowly healing.
"Nothing can be done to prepare for such an intense loss, but immediate support and guidance is essential. We received outstanding care while at NHH. Our nurses, doctors, and midwives were attentive, gentle, and genuine. When we discovered that sensitivity training had been offered a few months before Lawrence was born, we knew we had to help other staff receive the training as well. If there is something we can do to help make a difficult situation a little less painful, then we need to work together to accomplish just that. That's why with the help of family and friends, money was raised in order to continue the special sensitivity training offered by Maureen,” said Holly Hunt in regards to her care while at Northumberland Hills Hospital.
Donations received in memory of Lawrence, almost $2,000, were used to offer a session to NHH staff on November 17th plus two additional sessions are confirmed to be held in the New Year.
“We are honoured to be the recipient of these funds raised in memory of Lawrence,” states Rhonda Cunningham, Executive Director of NHH Foundation. “And we’re also fortunate to have a professional like Maureen in our community who is there to help families at a difficult time in their lives.”
