NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY – More than 440 guests, spread throughout 11 local restaurants, joined in the first ever Galalicious on November 6, 2021. This innovative event, which took the place of Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) Foundation’s annual fundraising gala, raised an impressive $217,000 to fund the purchase of priority medical equipment and technology at NHH.
Organizers recognized early in the year that an innovative approach would be needed to adhere to public health guidelines and prioritize community safety while still raising imperative funds for NHH. Galalicious was an opportunity for attendees to enjoy an evening out in support of both NHH and local restaurants, with guests choosing their own experience based on prix fixe menus ranging from $60-$250 per person (inclusive of donation receipt).
“We didn’t know what to expect when we first announced Galalicious, but we were amazed by the community’s response,” shares Rhonda Cunningham, Executive Director of NHH Foundation. “Local restaurants were quick to partner with us to bring the idea to life, we hosted more guests than any gala event before, both returning and new sponsors got on board early, and many local businesses and partners contributed incredible auction items. Our community truly came together for this event, and we can’t thank everyone enough their support. It is heartwarming to know no matter how different our world may appear; our community’s support of our hospital remains steadfast.”
NHH Foundation’s annual Gala is the organization’s most financially successful fundraising event, and this year’s success brings the total to more than $3.5 million raised over the past 21 years. Proceeds will help fund new medical equipment and technology across NHH to ensure patients in all departments continue to have access to exceptional care.
“I am proud of the creativity and adaptability shown by Foundation volunteers and staff in ensuring this event’s success,” Cunningham continues. “This was perhaps our most logistical event yet, and this small but mighty team took it on with gusto.”
Galalicious featured many of the much-loved elements from past gala events, including: the return of the Love Your Home Raffle, presented by Home Hardware Building Centres in Cobourg, Port Hope, and Brighton; an online silent auction, filled with items and experiences – from private getaways, to pamper packages, culinary delights, home décor, sports memorabilia, and more; and the Fund Me auction, raising money for the purchase of obstetrical and gynecological equipment at NHH.
Also returning for 2021 is the Gala Magazine, filled with stories and photos from the evening, which will be distributed in the Northumberland News on Thursday, December 23, 2021. If you do not receive a copy and would like one, please contact the Foundation office at (905) 377-7767.
