Northumberland’s Biggest Coffee Morning Goes Virtual

MEDIA RELEASE

April 15, 2020

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY- Every year since 2007, community members across Northumberland County have come together to support Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) by celebrating Northumberland’s Biggest Coffee Morning. This year, this much-loved event is going virtual for the whole month of May to give community members the opportunity to ‘raise a cup’ for local healthcare from the comfort of their own homes.

“We have been inspired by the outpouring of community support for NHH, and also by the creative ways we see people maintaining social connections during these unprecedented times,” shares Natasha Jacobs, Special Events Officer for NHH Foundation. “Even though we can’t physically gather, there are a variety of platforms and technologies that are allowing us to stay connected with our families, friends, and neighbours, and we hope to encourage people to utilize these to virtually come together in support of Northumberland’s Biggest (virtual) Coffee Morning 2020.”

Traditionally, Northumberland’s Biggest Coffee Morning has asked individuals, community groups, and businesses to plan and host coffee get togethers or other gatherings, like barbecues and cocktail parties in support of NHH. This year, both past and new hosts are encouraged to plan a virtual get together anytime during the month of May for the same great cause.

Hosts and attendees can register their events online and make their contributions at NHHFoundation.ca/Events, or by contacting njacobs@nhh.ca.

“This event has never really been about coffee – it’s about people mobilizing their social networks to raise funds for NHH,” continues Jacobs. “We see this as an opportunity for people to get creative – whether it’s as simple as coffee on a group video call, or something a little different, like live-streamed yoga classes, or paint nights. Party hosts and participants will be able to raise a cup, strike a pose, paint a picture, and more, all while helping to fund essential, life-saving medical equipment for our community.”

“I think that this is a very easy and fun way to raise money for the hospital,” says Terri Pamenter, a long-time supporter of Northumberland’s Biggest Coffee Morning. “It gives the host a chance to introduce new people in the community to NHH and all the great things it does.”
