Northumberland’s Generosity Unmasked
NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY– Following an announcement earlier this year that Brian and Kym Read would match all proceeds raised at Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) Foundation’s annual gala through The Read Elliott Family Foundation, it was perhaps anticipated results would be significant; what wasn’t anticipated was just how significant. With organizers of the 2019 event announcing a grand total of $570,000 in support of local mental health initiatives, this event went above and beyond any expectations.
The $285,000 raised through the 2019 Masquerade Gala alone was enough to break the record set last year – an impressive increase of more than $15,000 – and this was before it was matched by the Reads for a total of $570,000.
“So many people come together every year to make the Gala a success; Foundation staff, Gala cabinet, volunteers and guests who attend our event,” says Catrina Wood, Chair of the 2019 Gala. “It truly is a community effort and I am so honoured to be part of the team. The generosity of the people of Northumberland Hills is staggering! A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported the Gala and Northumberland Hills Hospital.”
This year’s masquerade-themed event took place November 2, 2019 at the Cobourg Lions Centre. The evening saw many returning supporters as well as first-time gala-goers pledging their support, with more than 330 attendees total.
“Even after 19 years of hosting the gala, the spirit and support of our community continues to amaze me!” exclaims Rhonda Cunningham, Executive Director of NHH Foundation. “Everyone involved in the gala gives so much to ensure success – from volunteers to staff, sponsors, silent auction donors, and guests – it’s truly incredible to see so many people standing up to support our hospital.”
A magazine highlighting photos captured during the 2019 event was distributed in the Northumberland News on December 5th. If you do not receive a copy and would like one, please contact the Foundation office at (905) 377-7767.
