The 30th Annual Light Up a Life Campaign Launches Across Northumberland

NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY – Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) Foundation’s 30th annual Light Up a Life fundraising campaign launches this week. This year’s goal is to support the purchase of an Automatic Tablet Packager for NHH’s Pharmacy – something that will help streamline medication packaging for departments across the hospital and increase efficiency.

“Each year, as responses to our appeal letters for Light Up a Life begin coming into our office, I am reminded of just how lucky we are to live in Northumberland County,” says Rhonda Cunningham, CEO of NHH Foundation. “Our community has come together time and time again to support our hospital. As NHH continues to add new services and expand departments, we must continue to invest in the equipment and technology that will allow us to offer the best care possible. This is why we are asking our community to stand with us once again in keeping high quality, modern healthcare close to home.”

The NHH Pharmacy supports all patient-care departments across the hospital, working closely with patients, physicians, nurses, and other members of the care team to ensure safe and effective medication use; prepare, dispense, and compound medications; and so much more. With every expansion and new service offered, the demands placed on the Pharmacy increase.

In addition to increasing efficiency, an Automatic Tablet Packager will help to streamline medication packaging, reduce medication wastage, improve patient safety, and better support nursing workflow.

“Shifting away from the current manual process of packaging medications will save time for our team and allow staff to focus on other key tasks, while improving inventory control and offering less chance for human error,” says Andrea Bonello, NHH Pharmacy Manager. “This will allow us to better support all departments and patients across NHH.”

Since Light Up a Life’s inception, more than $3.7 million has been raised to fund medical equipment and technology at NHH.

In addition to campaign appeal letters making their way to mailboxes across the County this week, two third party fundraisers are returning in support of this campaign:

  • The 9th Annual Family Christmas at the Spry Family Christmas Tree Farm will take place at the Spry Family Christmas Tree Farm (8329 Danforth Road) on December 2, 2023 from 10:00a.m.- 4:00p.m. As is tradition, this event will include a bonfire, chili lunch, hot chocolate, coffee and treats. This year, both Santa and Mrs. Claus will be onsite to take photos with families. Most trees are priced at just $70 except fir trees, which will be available for $100.
  • JJ’s Steak & Burgers in Cobourg is hosting a Christmas Tree Raffle throughout the month of November. Those interested in the chance to win a one-of-a-kind fully decorated pre-lit flocked Christmas tree can drop by the restaurant, located at 8 Elgin St. E, Cobourg, ON between November 1 and November 30, 2023 to purchase tickets (priced at five dollars each or three for ten dollars).
