NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY – This year’s Northumberland Ball – A Night in Emerald City, proved one thing: there’s no place like community. Thanks to the dedication of event organizers, along with the support of attendees, sponsors, and community partners, the 2026 Ball raised an incredible $25,500 in support of the Maternal Child Care Unit at Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH).
“As a mother of three children, all of whom were born at NHH, supporting the Maternal Child Care Unit is a cause that is incredibly close to my heart,” said Heather Brown on behalf of the organizing committee. “That unit holds so many special memories for my family, and many others, and we are so fortunate to have such an exceptional hospital serving our community.”
Hosted on Friday, July 10 at the Best Western Plus Cobourg Inn & Convention Centre, this year’s Ball brought the whimsy of Emerald City to Northumberland County, offering an evening of entertainment, dancing, and fun for children and their parents.
A cherished tradition for many local families, the annual event is made possible through the dedication of a passionate team of volunteers. Building on its strong community support, the 2026 planning committee welcomed a mix of new and returning members, bringing fresh ideas while continuing the traditions that have made the Ball a favourite community celebration.
“It was an honour to join Katie and Jenna Traugott in expanding the committee this year, alongside Julie Powell and Carly Wardle, to continue this wonderful tradition,” Brown adds. “We hope every family left with memories they’ll treasure for years to come, while knowing their attendance has helped support local healthcare for future generations.”
“We are incredibly grateful to the organizing committee and all those who came together in support of our hospital,” shares Courtney Ker, NHH Foundation Manager, Community Giving. “Third-party fundraisers such as this help to fund essential medical equipment and technology at our hospital. This event goes beyond one evening of family fun, its impact will make a lasting difference for patients of the Maternal Child Care Unit for years to come.”
