Together, we can invest in advanced monitoring to detect problems early and support timely intervention
Every day, the team at Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) cares for patients who require close observation and rapid intervention. Whether someone is experiencing a medical emergency, recovering from surgery, receiving intensive care, or welcoming a new baby, cardiac monitors provide healthcare teams with real-time information that can make a critical difference in patient outcomes.
These monitors play an imperative role in patient care and are essential to caring for critically ill patients. They provide healthcare teams with real-time information about a patient’s heartbeat and rhythm, blood pressure, oxygen levels in the blood, and more, and allow for timely intervention when concerns arise.
This year, we have a goal to fund the replacement of 38 total monitors throughout departments across the hospital, for a total investment of $393,676.
Benefits of cardiac monitoring technology include:
- Continuous tracking of vital signs such as heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and respiratory status
- Identify complications early and prevent deterioration, supporting earlier intervention and improved response time for emergencies
- Provides valuable information to support clinical decision-making and guide treatment
- Supports care in settings where close observation is essential
The value of cardiac monitors extends far beyond measuring heart rhythms. For patients and families, this technology provides reassurance that a constant watch is being maintained.
In the Emergency Department, cardiac monitors help clinicians rapidly recognize and respond to life-threatening conditions, and in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), they provide critical, around-the-clock surveillance for patients whose conditions can change rapidly. In the Operating Room and Diagnostic Imaging, they help ensure patient safety throughout surgical procedures and anesthesia, as well as diagnostic testing. Within Maternal Child Care, they support the wellbeing of both mothers and babies during labour, delivery, recovery, and the earliest stages of life.
Supporting cardiac monitors at NHH is more than an investment in equipment, it is an investment in safer care, earlier detection of complications, faster clinical response, and better outcomes for patients and families across our community.
While the cost to keep our hospital up to date is significant, the benefits are priceless. Your generosity will help provide essential technology used 365 days a year to save lives, support families, and deliver exceptional care close to home.
