NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY – McDonald’s® restaurants in Port Hope and Cobourg have raised $21,600 in support of Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH). A combination of efforts through the annual McHappy Day® fundraiser – which took place across Canada on May 10, 2023 – as well as in-store collections, and the Port Hope location’s recent grand reopening weekend, these funds will purchase newborn bassinets for the hospital’s Maternal Child Care Unit.

“We are grateful to have supportive business partners like McDonald’s who make our local hospital a charitable giving priority for the benefit of their employees and customers,” shares Rhonda Cunningham, CEO of NHH Foundation. “Third-party fundraising like this truly shows the difference we can collectively have when we come together in support of a common goal.”

“We want to thank the hardworking teams at the Cobourg and Port Hope McDonald’s locations, the many volunteers who helped to both greet and entertain customers, and of course our community for their support,” continues Cunningham. “We had a goal of raising $14,000 to purchase two newborn bassinets and this was blown out of the water – incredible!”

The majority of funds raised were the result of McHappy Day efforts at the three restaurants in Port Hope and Cobourg. An annual day of community giving across Canada, McHappy Day raises funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities as well as other local charities selected by individual franchisees. NHH Foundation was selected as the local charity of choice for the second year in a row by Cobourg and Port Hope locations.

“On behalf of all of us at McDonald's in Cobourg and Port Hope, we are thankful to our amazing teams, our guests and the community for their participation and support in making McHappy Day an outstanding success!" said Lisa Wilson, Owner and Operator of McDonald’s restaurants in Cobourg and Port Hope. "We have enjoyed working with NHH Foundation and their endeavors to provide exceptional care in our exceptional community with the purchase of new bassinets for the youngest of patients. The Foundation and Hospital staff and volunteers have been wonderful partners and we couldn't be more pleased to support them and the families in our community."

In addition to McHappy Day, the Port Hope location donated a portion of sales from the grand reopening weekend of their dining room, which took place in March 2023, and all three locations collected donations for the hospital throughout the months of April and May.
